TO THE PUBLIC.

Allow me to say a few words in praise of Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy. I had a very severe cough and cold and teared I would get pneumonia, but after taking the second dose of this medicine I felt better, • hree bottles of it cured my cold, and the pains in my chest disappeared entirely. I on most respectfully yours for health, o dph S. Meyers, 64-Thirty-seventh St., Wheeling, VC Va., U.S.A. For sale by A.. Manoy, Motueka.

The vagaries of the mother-in-law afford a constant source of material for humour and criticism of a certain kind. During the hearing of a case at the Auckland Police Court (says the Auckland Star) a woman told Mr Hutchison that she had changed house about eight times in eighteen months to get away from her mother-in-law, and she was now preparing to move from her present house with the same purpose. The absence of facilities for direct shipment to South Africa is likely to give the poultry industry in New Zealand a serious check. The demand in South Africa is as great as ever, but New Zealand merchants find that at the price which they have been purchasing birds, shipments to the Cape by way of Australia have returned them practically no profit. They have therefore reduced the price by 3d per pair in order to make up for the heavy freight via Sydney or Melbourne. The progress which the industry has made is shown by the fact that in April 10,185 birds were put through the Christchurch poultry depot, as compared with 742 in the corresponding month of last year. There are now 14 men employed in that depot as pluckers and packers. The Auckland and Wellington depots each provide similar work for three men, and four are so employed at the Dunedin depot. The Agricultural department has received a letter from a large firm at the Cape stating that the New Zealand poultry sent to South Africa is of bet - ter quality and is better packed than that received from any other part of the world. It is said that Mr Pirani’s ‘domestic trouble ’ has been settled without resort to the Court , and that he will be again a candidate at the general election.
