STOCK SALES. Christchurch, May 7. Fat cattle—2ls yarded, including some good lines of bullocks. Prices were the same as last week : —Good bullocks £9 to £l2 2s 6d, lighter £6 to £8 10s, prime heifers £8 to £9 ss, lighter £5 15s to £7 10s, best cows L 7 to L 8 10, others L 5 12s to L 6 10s. Store cattle —300 head yarded; a dull sale. Yearlings 24s to 24s 6d, fifteen to eighteen-months L2 2s to L2 18s, two year heifers, L 4 I2s, 2| year do. L 5 ss, three year steers L 6 12s 6d, heifers L 5 15s, cows L2 to L 4 15s, dairy cows L 4 to £9. Fat sheep—s6oo penned, mostly ewes, with a few good lines of wethers. Buyers for export competed keenly for the wethers and good ewes. Prices for wethers rose 9d per head. Butchers’ «wes were in even supply, with a dragging and irregular sale. Prime wethers, 19s 6d, good freezers 16s to 18s 6d, up to 19s 3d, extra prime lighter 15s, wethers and ewes 14s to 16s, maiden owes 15s to 18s, butchers’ best ewes 14s t > 16s, up to 17s Id, very prime merino wethers, 8s to 11s 9d. About 500 head of North Island sheep were in, wethers making 15s 7dto 16s 8d (150 f >r export at the former figure), mixed wethers and ewes, 14s 9d. Fat lambs—-2675 penned, mostly secondary sorts. Owing to the keen demand for freezing, prices rose 6d per head. 2521 were taken for export at 10s lOd to 14s 2d. Butchers took a fe .v at 9s to 13s 6d. Forty-eight tegs :rom the Acton estate were taken for freezing at 19s 7d, and a line of 651 from Springbank at 13s 3d. Store sheep 8600, mostly wethers and lambs; very few ewes. There was only a slack demand ; wethers and },uxi bs were almost unsaleable, and nearly all were passed. Forward wethers 13s 6d to l'4s 3d, others 10s 6d to I:3s 6d, ewes 7s 6d to 10s IGd, lambs 6s to 8s lid. Pigs. Over 600 yarded. The demum for fats was weak, and there was a decline of per lb, but stores showel an improvement. Baconers, 32s to 43s 6d, 48s 6d for extra heavy, equal t ~3|d ,pqr lb, porkers 20s to 28s,

to 3gd per lb ; large stores, 15s to 235, smaller 10s to 12s, suckers and weaners 4s 6d to 2s. - Dunedin, May 7. At Burnside to-day, 204 head of fat cattle were yarded, only a small portion being really prime. There was good demand, and last week’s prices were maintained. Best bullocks, LlO 5s to Lll ss; medium, L 8 10s to L 9 15s ; light and inferior, L 6 10s to L 7 10s ; best cows, L 6 15s to L 7 7s 6d ; medium, L 5 10s to L 6 10s ; light and inferior, L 4 sstoLs. Fat sheep—24l6. The greater number were crossbred ewes of fair to prime quality Butchers having a moderate number in hand,' the supply proved excessive, and to effect sales a reduction of Is for wethers, and Is 6d to 2s 6d for ewes, had to be submitted to. Inferior quality was specially slow of sale. Best crossbred wethers, 15s to 16s; especially heavy, 17s 3d; medium, 13s 6d to 14s 6d ; light, 11s to 12s 3d ; best ewes, 11s 6d to 13s ; medium, 9s to 11s; light and inferior, , 6s to Bs. Fat lambs—63B, There was good demand for prime, and prices, if anything, were in favour of sellers. Inferior sorts were difficult to quit. Best, 10s to 11s 6a ; medium, 8s 6d to 9s 3d ; inferior 6s to 7s 6d. Pigs —63. There was brisk demand. Suckers, 6s to 10s 6d ; slips, 13s to 16s ; stores, 18s to 82s ; porkers, 24 to 32s : baconers, 40s to 455. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and C., (m conjunction with Messrs Abraham and Williams), report that at their sale at Johnson ville, near Wellington on Thursday as follows :—We had an average yarding of cattle, which consisted of prime heavy-weight bullocks, smaller prime, with a few large unfinished sorts and prime cows. We quote :—Best bullocks £9 5s to £9 12s 6d, others £8 to £8 17s 6d, good cows £6, others £4 15s to £4 17s 6d. Beef made 21s to 22s per 1001 b. Sheep were in usual supply, and met \a fairmarket. Good ewes made 10s 9d 'to 11s 3d, half-fatted ewes 8s to 9s 9d, medium wethers 9s Id to 10s 3d, stores 7s 4d to 7s lid, store lambs 5s Id to 5s 9d, others 7s 3d to 8s 7d. No pigs were yarded. Messrs Thompson Bros, and Co. report the following wholesale prices for the Wellington Produce Market : Chaff, 0.5., £5 5s to £5 10s, oats 3s, wheat 3s lOd to 4s 3d, straw £2 10s to £3, maize 4s 3d, barley 3s 6d, horse beans 4s 2d, partridge peas 4s 3d, pollard £6 10s, bran £5 10s, flour 200, £ll, oatmeal £l4 10, split peas 13s 6d, pearl barley 14s 6d, potatoes £4 10s to £5, onions £B, cheese (Taratahi) (Mungaroa) sd, bacon sides 6|d to 7d, rolls 7Jd, hams 7Jd, fresh eggs Is lOd to 2s, preserved Is 2d, vinegar Is per gal. hops 6d to 7d per lb, lemon juice 15s per doz. Apples—Cooking 4s to ss, dessert 5s 6d to 7s 6d (according to quality). Pears—Cooking 4s to ss, dessert 12s to 15s. Lemons. 10s to 12s, Island oranges Bs, cabgages 3s 6d to 5s per sack, pumpkins 4s to 4s 6d, fowls 2s 9d to 3s, ducks 3s to 4s, celery . 2s t - ) 3s 6d, marrows 3s per sack, carrots 3s 6d, swedes £2, pie melons 7s to 8s per sack.
