FOOTBALL.

MOTUEKA v lIIWAKA. On Saturday afternoon, a most enjoyable game of football was played on the Motueka grounds, between teams representing the Motueka District High School and the Iliwaka School, and ended'in a victory for the former by 11 to nil. The score, however, did not represent the game, for until near the end of the second spell the Iliwaka team had all the best of the play, and throughout showed superior skill, and judgment. The heavy weight of their rivals, however, wore them dow , aid toward the end of the game they had to succumb to superior strength. The tackling of the Iliwaka boys was atreat to witness ; and it must be said to their credit that they took their A feat as manfully as they tackled thei • opponents.

A scratch match between members of the Motueka Football Club took place on Saturday afternoon, when some useful practice was indulged in. It has been suggested that those who play football, and who are members of the local club, should show their interest in the game by attending the practices which are held. It is probable a number of matches will be played against teams from other districts, and if the Motueka boys wish to hold their own they must do as the members of other clubs, piactice on every possible occasion. The following is the team selected t > represent Motueka against Ri.vaka, on Saturday next: —L. Budden, A. Talbot, Xi, Manoy, W. Reuben, M. 1. Petiha, P Knapp, W. Boyes. T. Morg in, W. Hunt, H. Trewavas, A. Clifford, F. Delaney, I. Macfarlane, G. B mndy, J. Penney ; emergencies R. Goodman, H. Bradley, A Knapp, H. McGlashen, P Rewi. The match is to place at. Riwaka.
