The Motueka Star PUBLISHED TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. “Te Ora Mota Iwi.” TUESDAY, APRIL 22, 1902.
Mr A. Manoy, notifies that his Bacon Factory will be open on Thursday next. Mr Manoy is a cash buyer of prime dairy fed pork at the highest market r-ates. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Motueka Lodge of Freemasons will take place to"morrow evening. * Owing to pressure of business in the County districts of Helson, Mr Coxon, the laundry expert was unable to reach Motueka till last evemug. The classes were started this afternoon, and will be continued for one week only. As an evidence of the gx-eat interest taken by parents and others in Mr Coxon’s work, it may be stated that at Wakefield he had 170 pupils and at Richmond over' 100; a request to extend the lessons being refused because it would interfere with the programme arr-anged by Mr Coxon. The classes open at 10 o’clpck each morning and are continued till ten in the evening. A football match, Motueka y- Riwaka was played on the cricket ground last Saturday after-noon, which resulted in a win for the visitox-s, who scoied six points to nil. Motueka won the toss and elected to play with the wind. The game was stubbornly contested, but the superior play of Riwaka, combined with their weight, told against the local boys. Both tries were scored by E. Fry, who played a sterling game. The following represented the visitors : Messi-s H. Jenkins, E. Fi-y, F. Fry (captain), R. Bate, L. Cederman, N. Rowling, Goodall, Fowl ex-,' L. Drum-
mond, Bradley, "Woolf, BE. Fry, Holyrake, Goodman, and Robinson. Motueka : Messrs Knapp, Talbot, Petiha, (captain) Reuben, Delaney, Rewai, Morgan, Stilwell. Trewavas, Boundy, Hunt, Gilbei t, Micfarlane, McGlashen, and C. Knap . Dr Adams officiated as refere . We dirtct attention to tie alterations in Messrs W. R< ut and Son’s advertisement. In addition to the land arid estate agency successfully carried on by the firm in Kelson for so many years, their business now conp -’ses auctioneering and the sale of live stock, the la tier departa eats b. ing in charge of an expert who has had considerable experience in the South Island. Mr Tar-rant, the firm’s local e xresentative, will be pleased to interview clients and furnish full information on amp subject. As showing the advantages to be gained by the judicious use of artificial manures, Mr Everett, at the last meeting of the Fanners’ Union, referred to the raspberry plantation of Mr Dudgeon, which he said was an object lesson to all, being undoubtedly the best gar-den in Motueka, those adjoining suffered by contrast. We have heard the same remarks expressed by others who have inspected Mr Dudgeon’s holding, including the Government Pomologist, Mr Blackmore, who maintains that if the other gardens in Motueka, received the same treatment as. the one in question (artificial manures and a continual stirring up of the soil) equally satisfactory results would follow. A sitting of the Old Age Pensions Court was held yesterday, when Mr Wilson Heaps S.M., renewed three applications for pensions. A notice, with x-espect to the annua election of School Committees appears in our advertising columns.
