MOTUEKA MOUNTED RIFLES.
A Government parade of the above corps was held in Mr R. Staples’ paddock on Saturday, in charge of R. A. R. Oldham, Lieutenant Commanding There was a good muster, about 50 being on parade. The company was exercised by the off cers. On Sunday morning a church parade was held at St Thomas’ Church, the Rev Thomas Johnston officiating. There was an excellent attendance both of volunteers amd residents. An appropriate sermon was delivered which was listened to with deep attention. Next Thursday, at one o’clock the Company will meet at the Post Office corner and proceed overland to Stoke where they go into camp, which will be a stationary one, the Wakatu and Marlborough Mounted Rifles pitching their tents on the same ground. The following promotions have lately been made :—Corporals Chittenden and Heath and Lance-Corporal Talbot to be Sergeants, Lance-Corporal Beatson to be Corporal, and Trooper L. Manoy (secretary), W. Burrell and Waghorn to be Corporals. A shooting eompetttion will be held on the sth, 9th, and 19th April, when prizes, including one guinea presented by Mr Haycock, will be fired for.
