The first prosecution in. the,: colony under the Slaughtering and. Inspection Act, 1901, took pi achat Naseby, Otago. The informations were laid by the inspector appointed under the Act. For slaughtering without a license, two defendants were each fined 10swith costs «£l.los. For keeping swine within 50 yards of a slaughtering place,' another defendant was fined 10s with costs £,l 10s. Forfailing to keep his slaughtering place cleaned to the satisfaction of the inspector, defendant was fined 20s, a nd costs 28s.
