Present: Messrs Thomas Pattie (chairman), Trewavas, Banfield, Uursthouse, Wratt, Guy, Dudgeon, Lowe, and Wills. The chairman referred to the importmce of the question to the residents of this district, and re e itioned t that he had placed himself in communication with the owners of the Anchor Line steamers and had received a reply which he read.

A general discussion took place as to the service, and it was unanimously agreed that it was necessary, the only point on which there was a difference of opinion being as to whether the running should be bi-weekly, or three times a fortnight, during the perishable fruit season.

Eventually the following resolutions were carried without dissent : That the service be bi-weekly from the 20th December to the end of February, weekly from the Ist March to the 30th June, and fortnightly from the Ist of

July to the 20th of December ; that the steamer he 75 tons register, draft 7 feet and speed of 8 knots ; good passenger accommodation to be provided at reasonable rates; the freight charges to be 10s per ton ; also that the ship be properly ventilated. It was agreed on the motion of MrGuy, seconded by Mr J. Wills, that the clause referring to alternative tenders be cut out. On the recommendation of Mr Hursthouse it was resolved That this committee recommends the Government to insert a clause to the effect that the steamer leave Motueka for Wellington direct from the 20th December to the end of February, and that during the remainder of the year the steamerbe permitted to call at" Nelson, provided there be no transhipment of cargo.

The chairman was authorised to write a letter to the Postmaster General embodying the resolutions pas ed, the same to be sent through the merrrbes for the district, Mr R. McKLenzie. This was all the business.
