MOTUEKA WHARF BOARD

- —o — - The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present : Messrs Hursthou.se- (chairman), Bate and Beuke. Minutes of previous meeting read confirmed. ■

The Chairman leported that he had made a clear copy of the regulations gone through at the previous meeting, which had been forwarded to the Marine Department. No reply had since been received. In reference to the lease of the foreshore applied for by Mr Howes, he had visited the spot in company with that gentleman. He was not satisfied about their powers to grant a lease ; the only powers given them were conferred by such regulations as were made from time to time by Order in Council.

The only account presented was the wharfiger’s salary which was passed for payment. A short discussion ensued as to future meetings. The Chairman said that in view of the coming Mayoral election his successor would have a seat on the Board and that he for one was not disposed, under the circumstances, to go in for certain improvements.

It was decided, on the motion of Mr Beuke, that the next meeting be held on the first Monday in May, and that the Chairman and Mr Bate sign cheques for the wharfingers salary and other incidental expenses. The Board rose at three o’clock.
