An Australian paper states that a close race from San Erancisco to Melbourne has just been completed by the American snips Elwel! and Henry*'Yil- i ■ lard. The last-named vessel left Saa.---Francisco on December 12, and the Elwell a day later, but the latter. arrived at Melbourne on February 3, while "Villard did not reach heV destination until February, 4*..-"Both,, vessels made splendid "passages of fifty-two and fifty-four days respectively.
