good folk of Halifax have been grievously offended. It was all the fault of a wicked comp ; but the damage is done, and Halifaxers refuse to be pacified.
A local paper, in reporting an enthusiastic open-air meeting, described iti glowing terms the splendid reception given to the very popular man who tookthe chair. The description would have greatly pleased the readers of the paper in question, but for the concluding sentence, which ran
“The vast concourse rent the air with their snouts.”
