THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION.
PROBABLE CANDIDATES. Says the Wellington correspondent of the Wairarapa Daily Times : I am informed on good authority, that the probable candidates for the Masterton seat, at tbe i ext general election, are Messrs' Hogg, Eli Smith, and C: APownall. The fact that Mr Pownall intends contesting the Masterton general election probably accounts for his not seeking re-election for Mayor. I am informed that Messrs Smith and Pownall’s parties intend to work hard, and Mr Hogg, it is said, will be as near defeat as ever he was. - Tbe “Standard”-.(Mr Pirani’s paper) is informed on leliable authority that Mr H. S. Fitzherbert will contest the Palmerston seat in the Liberal interest at the next election. . Mr R. Rice—-Mr.'T. L. Buick’s old political coach, and latterly a supporter of the Hon. C. H. Mills—announces his intent" 0.1 of contesting the Wairau seat in the Opposition interest at the General Election. Mr W. T. Wood has announced that he will be a candidate for the Palmerston seat at the next general election in tbe Liberal interest.
