The Motueka Star PUBLISHED TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. “Te Oranga Moti Iwi.” TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1902.

The High School buildings are now near completion, and will .shortly' be handed over by the contractor. Within a month or six weeks tin* school should be properly equipped and the master, Mr. Wilkes, ready to take up lus duties. The opening of the High School will mark a distinct advance in the educational history of Motueka, and those who agitated for the higher educational facilities which .-uch a >ehool will afford are to be congratulated upon the success of their praiseworthy efforts on behalf of the rising generation. It has been suggested that in order to commemorate the event, the school be formally opened by the Chairman of the Nels >n Education Board, the others members of that body being invited to ke present. A ceremony such as that indicated would be the means of bringing the advantages of the High School under the immediate notice of parents and guardians, as speakers would naturally deal with the cause of education from different standpoints; We commend the idea to the School Committee, who will hold their next meeting early in March. No doubt if they adopt .the suggestion, and take counsel with Mr Harris anti the other teachers, a short miscellaneous entertainment might be organised to follow the speech making. Nothing will be lost by having a formal opening, which may be the means of indue ng wavjering parents to enroll the r children as pupils. We are pleased t> hea~ that quite a number of residents in outlying districts have decided to patronise the school, and we have no d >ubt, when once in working order, the Motueka High Schpol, with masters possessing such high .-/pholastie attainments as Messrs Harris and Wilkes, will give a good account of itself.
