Union a deputation consisting of His Worship the Mayor and .Vlessi\> Thomas and Robert Pa'ttie interviewed the Postmaster General, Sir J. G. Ward, at Nelson on Tuesday last in reference ■ to ■ a direct steam service from Motueka to Wellington Messrs R. liursthouse and Thomas Pat-tie acted as spokesmen, putting forward the claims of the district for such a service. The Minister agreed that, in view of its isolated position, the distr'et deserved special consideration and promised, upon his return to Wellington, t> invite tenders for a direct service, upon specified conditions: He also advised the deputation to communicate with ship owners on the subject. We trust the hands of the deputation will he strengthened by the residents of this locality, and that ere long we shall have a service which will be of great advantage to the community. Mr R. McKenzie was also present at the interview. Bryant's Comedy Company, which has gained a splendid reputation throughout New Zealand, is announced to appear for one night only in the Institute Hall, when the ever popularpiece, The Private Secretary, will be staged for the first time in Motueka. Mr Bryant's company has been playing to crowded houses in Nelson this week and we strongly advise those who have not witnessed their their performances to be present at the hall toD morro.v evening ; even those who attended in Nelson will no doubt take the opportunity of having another delightful evenings enj oyaient. At the request of Mr R. Hursthouse, Sir J. G. Ward agreed that weather reports from Capes Campbell, Egmont, and Farewell should be exhibited daily at the Motueka Post Office. The bride looked charming in a neat dress of white satin, with the orthodox orange blossoms, and had as bridesmaids her sisters, Misses Ada, Nellie, and Linda Holyoake, who were attired in dresses of white muslin. Mr Elliott Fry acted as best man. After ' the ceremony a wedding breakfast was partaken of at the residence of the bride's parents, when over sixty persons were present.

A young man named William Marshall, of Riwaka, engaged in bush felling for Mr Best, of Riwaka Valley, met with a nasty accident last Saturday afternoon, which will prevent him from pursuing his usual arocation for the next two months. We are informed that he had just cut through a fairly l*rge tree when a falling branch caught hun and jam bed him against a rock. His mate, CharlesGoodall, hearing cries for assistance, was quickly on the spot. Upon examination, it was found that Marshall had received a nasty flesh wound on his left leg, the bone being exposed.
