STOCK SALES.
At Addington yards last week theie was a fairly laige entry of stock in the yards, and a good attendance. The yarding of store sbeep numbered 6665, or about 500 more than last week, the bulk being lambs. The dry weather evidently affected the demand, and prices were easier. Good breeding ewes sold very well, as did the more forward lam lis, but backward sorts were more difficult to fplace. The chief sales were 304 lambs at 10s 9d, 106 at 9.s 9d, 450 at 9s sd, 1100 at 8s 7d, 111 at 8s 7d, 244 at 8s 3d, 100 at 7s, and smaller lots 7s 3d to 10s Bd, a line of. 1300 being, passed at 8s 9d, 177 two and-four-tooth eves 13s 7d, 129 six tooth 13s 3d, 500 sound mouth 12s 193 tour tooth lis 9d, small lots of two-tooth wethers ;10.s lid to 12s Id.
There was a very;huge entry of fat lambs,,the greater'proportion of which were. - not well, finished. The good prices now ruling, combined with the dry weather, are evidently making farmers anxious to take advantage of the,, ; market. :As . Las before been pointed out, however, full rates cannot beexpected exempt for freezing lines, unfinished lots not making more than store . juices. ; The market opened rather slacker than last week, even the best lain.bs showing a slight decline, wbile, others suffered to th e extent of fully Is per head. The total number yarded was 5005, of which 2425 were taken for freezings prime making 13s 6d ; to 14s 3d, and others lis 4d to 13s; 55q were bought by butchers at 9s 3d to 13s 7d ; 675-by graziers at 9s to 10s Bd, and 1328 were passed at 10s to 13s 9d.' :. ,;
There was a moderate yarding of sheep, chiefly ewes, and the quality was mostly medium. There was a brisk demand for wethers, which were in short supply, and:they sold rather better than last week, and ewes maintaintheir value fairly, well, especially towards the-end of the sale. Best crossbred wethers made 15s to 17s, and others ; 12s 6d to 14s 6d, the range of prices covering the rates given for both freezers and butchers' lots ; prime merino wethers 14s 3d. medium ' 10s to 12s, and others 8s to 9s 6d.
i In the fat cattle pens 166 head were offered, a fair; proportion being, prime quality steers. -The, - market opened very slack, a numder of pens being
passed, but prices were iirially established on the basis of last week's rates. Steers made E 6 12s' 6d to L 9 12s 6d, and two extra Lll, heifers L 5 5s to L 8 ss, and cows L 5 5s to E 7 10a, equal to 17s to 23s'per 1001 b, according to quality. A small mixed entry of 'store cattle met with a fair sale at the following rates : —Yearlings 29s to 35s 9d, 15 to 18-months L2 Is to'L3 3s, 2-year steers D 4 10s, 5-year heifers L 3 12s, 3-year steers L 5 15s, 3-year heifers L.-1 2s 6d to L. 4 Bs, dry cows L2 to L 4 ss, dairy cows mada L2 10s to L 8 17s 6d'"
There was an average yarding of all olasses of pigs, except baconei's, which were in rather short supply. The latter were, not much in demand, and showed a decline in values, but porkers made last week's rates, and there was again a good enquiry stores,, about sixty large sorts being bought for the Peninsula. Baconers equal to 3Jd per lb, porkers 22s to 30s, equal to 3|d per lb, large stores 15s to 23s 6d, smaller 10s 6d to 14s, and suckers and weaners 5s to ,7s 6d.
