RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
The programme of the first meeting of the New Zealand Defence ■ Forces' Riffle Association, which succeeds thei body which formerly controlled the annual.meet of New Zealand riflemen, has just been issued. The use of, oi-thoptics as an aid to aiming is,: by regulation, prohibited.: It is stipulated that only.-the Lee-Enfield magazine rifle and the Martini-Enfield .303 will be allowed to be used at the meeting. The old handicap trouble as between the Martini-Enfield and the Martini simple is thereforee overcome so far as this meeting is concerned.-; It is laid down in the conditious of firing that at the 200 yards range.a 11 sh ts must be fired from a standing position ; up to and including yards the position must be a prone one; beyond that distance an option is given. One sighting shot will be given at each range, but it will, not be counted in a competitor's score. No:charge will be made for it. The matches are this year restricted to members ef the New Zealand Defence Force (active, honorary or reserve list), New Zealand cadets, members of the New Zealand Defence Rifle Clubs, and members of the Defence Forces of the Australian Commonwealth. This means that the participation formerly allowed to civilians in most of the matches has ceased. There are in all seventeen matches on the programme, with prizes in each match ranging from 33 of the total value of .£56 to 14 prizes of the value of .£34. This is exclusive of a match for returrel soldiers from South Africa, in which the prizes range from .£5 to =£l, and the total value am unts to .£3l.
