BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Motueka Borough Council was held on-Tues-dny evening. Present- : His Worship the Mayor (Mr R. Hursthouse) Messrs Thorp, Ryder, Tarrant, Satherley, Knapp, Wratt, Simpson. F. Burrell re railway from Motueka to Richmond ; from Diamond Jubilee Committee, Nelson,, inviting the Council to be present during c-arnival week. With reference to the jaws foist me breaker it was resolved that if no satisfactory reply is received from Melbourne within a fortnight they be ordered from Messrs Duthie and Co. On the motion of Cr Rankin seconded by Cr WTatt, it was resolved that. Mr E. F. Burrell s letter be received. r l'h e Town Clerk was instructed to thank the Jubilee committee for their invitation and to inform them that as many as possible of the Councillors will attend.
His W orsliip the Mayor informed the Council that in company with Crs Simpson and Wratt, the other memmbers of the sub committee appointed, he had visited the protective works. Mi Edwards deemed it advisable to increase the length of the second groin. After inspecting the Works they agreed with Mr Edwards’ suggested altertions of the plans. A lengthy discussion ensued. It was agreed that in order to avoid future complications, tbe Town Clerk wire to Nelson asking if the new Chief Surveyor had arrived, and if so, that Mr Edwards proceed thither in order to obtain his permission to make the proposed alterations. Cr Ryder enquired as to dog tax fees, an 1 complained of the dilatory manner of collecting the amounts due. He moved, and it was agreed to, That the collector be instructed to sue for all overdue fees.
It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Thorp, seconded by Cr Rankin, That
the dog tax for the current year be 5s and 2s 6d, and that the collector be instructed to sue all owners of dogs who do not register within three months from the Ist January. Cr Thorp moved, seconded by Cr Knapp, That all who havfe failed to remove obstructions; from the after due notification,- be suerLforthwith. Carried. ■ • ,
His Worship the Mayor informed Councillors as to the first meeting of the Wharf Board, of which he, had been appointed Chairman and stated the Board had a credit balance of £397, which ,vas lodged' in the local branch of tlie Bank of New Zealand. The meeting then concluded. '
