A\return of the business brought be-fm-e the Magistrate's CoiM-fc at Motueka,,has been handed to us by Mr H. M. Gilberts-clerk of the- Cowrt. It is a record one in every. lespect, showing as it does an almost ; coieplete absence of erim e,,and furnishing- ample proof of the soundness of "the-'district from a commercial point of view, Under the heading "Criminal Cases," we findit'hat'during the year the following were disposed of : Threatening to do bodily harm, 1 ; concealment of birth,,r; theft (18 charges) 1 ; drunk--2 :- disorderly conduct, 2 ; refusing to vem&Vfi. goods from the wharf, 1 ; driving without lights, 2 ; allowing chimney to take fire, 1';" driving on > footway, 1. Total fees collected, «£2 16s; j/total fines paid .£1 8s 6d. - Under the heading " Civil Cases," the return shows that 9 plaints were Issued and 7 tried. The amount sued for was .£69 lls-lOd and that recovered ,£SB Os Bd. ■ ' During the year 30 Old Age Pensions were applied for and granted. No applications were refused.
