CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir : Tile valae of “Mr H pr.-t----house’s grounds’ has long been recognised for recreation purposes, and m fact it would be difficult to find a more suitable place for a public park than this popular resort. The owners of it have always been good enough to grant the public the privelege of using it*for special occasions, and are therefore entitled to our thanks for theii generosity and consideration. The question of acquiring a recreation ground near the township has long been under consideration and it will be remembered that at the public meeting, held in connection with the proposal to constitute Motueka a borough, I moved that the rent of the ground on the Moutere plain be allowed to accumulate until the lease expired, and suggested the land be then sold and some purchased .nearer the township. To do this would require a special Act- of Parliament. There would be little difficulty in getting this done, provided we could re purchase near the town. : It is commonly reported that the Fearon estate is to be sold shortly, and it is suggested that the portion used now as a picnic resort be acquired by the Corporation, for the benefit of the community. The public would then have the right to use it at any time,-subject of course to the control of the Council as is the case everywhere. The money required for the purpose could be easity raised and the interest, until the present Domain is sold, could be paid from the general fund plus the rent from the Domain.

I am etc. W. J. Mcffiltt
