MOTUEKA CASH STORE.
We are again reminded that Christmas is close at hand by the active preparations which are being made by the local storekeepers and others. Stocks suitable for the joyous season have been unpacked, the shelves loaded with goods, and now the windows are being decorated and made attractive to the eye and palate of old and young. A visit to Mr P. G. Moffatt’s Cash Store in High Street will reveal the fact that he has been extremely busy of late fixing up shelves and stands to hold the large consignment of goods imported by him in anticipation of the Christmas and New Year trade. In the provision department which, after all e concerns the average citizen more than the latest discovery in astronomy or hydrostatics, Mr Moffatt has on "hand full supplies of hams and bacon from May of Richmond, ditto from Mr T, Heath, of Pokororo, both of whom were prize takers at the last Agricultural show in Nelson, and are known to be first class curers ; condiments of all kinds and qualities; tinned fish (best Californian); all the necessary ingredients required for the plum pudding, without which Christmas would not be as season of rejoicing and enjoyment. Thei-e are sultanas, muscatels, candied peel, icing sugar, etc., all guaranteed fresh. For desert and other purposes there are Jordan almonds,‘figs, dates, prunes, Griffin’s 20th Century biscuits, pictorial ditto, (which are calculated to improve the mind and satisfy the inner man) cheese from the Dalefield Factory, hop tonic and cordials from Hamilton’s (Nelson) ship’s lime juice, montserat etc. If these refreshment are not to the taste, Downer’s well known teas can be pr-o-cured in suitable quantities. The youngsters requirements have been studied, there being a varied assortment of sweets to select from, including chocolates, stickjaw, almond rock (or rock of ages; we forget) caramels, knapsacks, stockings and those little things which melt in oire’s mouth and have such a pleasant and delicious taste.
The crockery and hardware section contains a wide range -of ornamental and useful articles, such as the latest patterns of tea and 5 o’clock sets, fancy and color ed glassware of all descriptions enainelware, tinware, picture frame mouldings which can be bought in suitable quantities, or made up on the premises etc. For fruit growers, Mr Moffatt has imported from America 20 dozen buckets which are enamelled inside and are speciality made for collecting small fruit. Boots and shoes of all sizes and qualities and stocked
from Hannah and " 'Company’s factory. The toy and fancy'goods department, as a matter of course, will be visited by those who wish to purchase articles for presentatory or greeting cards and tokens for absent relations and friends. The stockings of the little ones, will be placed in a conspicuous place just before the annual visitation of Santa Claus who will be no niggard; dolls (brides, sleepers, colored—short and tall) squeakers, baloons, toys of all kinds drums, tambourines, trumpets, and every known variety of instrument can be procured beie. They coy maiden, the adolescent young man and those of mature years can make suitable selections from the stock of photo frames, brackets,.inkstands, stationery cases, screens, handbags etc, whilst for those who want a quiet read after tie festivities of the season there are the Christmas numbers of the Pear,s annual, Blaeh and White, Graphic and the Illustrated London News. A speciality has been made of Christmas f*aras, 300 boxes and packets of Raphael Tucks designs, no two of which are alike, together with envelopes for same, having been imported. There are many other useful and ornamental lines for sale, whish may be overlooked at any time, a cordial" welcome being extended to visitore by the proprietor.
