NGATIMOTI.

[From our own correspondent.]

Yesterday was quite a redletter day foi Ngatimoti— the hoisting of the school flag.

Mrs Jas Haycock had kindly consented, at the committee's invitation, to unfurl the Eusign but through illness she was unable to do so, and her daughter MissE. Haycock did it for her.

Mr Wills, the Chairman of the . Committee, spoke a short time, espec- * ially dwelling on the freedom enjoyed under the British Flag. Mr W. J. Moffatt, of Motueka, who had been invited by the Committee, also spoke of tha freedom enjoyed under the Union Jack, the love of the people for a monarchy rather than a republic : by it we have a very democratic people, perhaps more so than any other people under the sun.

Mr Guy spoke of the early settlers of the district and what they had done, read a subscription list showing howfunds had been raised for building the first school in the district.

The children had tea about 4 o'clock to which 70 sat down,' and after the adults and others races and o- ames were enjoyed by the children.* The Committee had invited the Committees of Orinoco' and Pokororo and those districts were well represented. There were 300 people present including children, it is not too much to say that the days proceedings were quite a success, and lam told all enjoyed themselves at the dance which took place in the evening and continued to the small hours of the next day. Dec. 7th.
