The Motueka Star PUBLISHED TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. "Te Oranga Moti Iwi." TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1901.
Those who listened to the excellent selections rendered by the Kelson Garrison Band on Sunday last, both at the military camp and in Mptueka, must have called to mind the time when it was not necessary to send away for a Band. The absurdity of such a proceeding must have been apparent to all. We do not wish to east any reflections upon the Mounted Rifles for securing the services of Bandmaster Trussell and his men for the occasion—they deserve every credit for the spirit which prompted them in this matter, but we do think it a great pity that steps are not taken to once more galvanise into life the old Motueka Brass Band. The musical talent is available;. instruments are here. A little ation, some encouragement from the publia, and we feel sure past difficulties and troubles will be forgotten and a Band,, with responsible trustees appointed, will once more be constituted. If public opinion is averse to it beingunder the control of the corporation, well and good. It is a matter of indifference to us. A brass band in a township is a necessity ; its presence at public gatherings is always appreciated, serving, as it does, to dispel the monotonous feelings and lack of interest always noticeable when music is not supplied we trust the matter will be taken up by some public spirited men in the Borough ;if they succeed they will deserve the thanks of the public. The present is a most opportune time to agitate ; the longer the question is allowed to remain in abeyance the greater the difficulties to overcome.
