CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir: Re direct steamer subsidy to Wellington. I see by your paper the Farmer's Union people are going to waste time by writing to Mr McKenzie about it. If I remember aright, that gentleman in the first place advised that a public petition, should be got up, which is about the most sensible thing to do, as a petition well signed would cany weight with the Government. What 1 wanted to say most was this. If we are to have a direct subsidised steamer let it be one that we can depend upon, not one that has to put its nose into every little bay and creek in the Pelorus" Sound before it comes to Motueka, and when it does reach here nobodj 7 knows about it except Mr Moffatt. We don't want any hide and seek business. I should like to see the thing fixed up before we are ready to send away our hops and fruit. I am etc, Hop Grower. Riwaka, Dec 2nd. TO THE EDITOR. Sir :—I see by the paper the Motueka school children are going to have a picnic on New Year's day in Mr Hursthouse's paddock. I should like to see a big gathering of children from all parts of the district and suggest to the members of your School Committee that if they fall in with the idea the youngsters would have a grand time of it. For myself I would rather have it held on Boxing Day, say in your cricket ground. I hear there will be nothing doing in Motueka on that day so I would recommend this idea of mine. I am, etc., Parent. Pangatotara Dec. sth.
