LICENSING MEETING.

The quarterly meeting of the Motueka Licensing Committee was held at the C >urt House to-day. Present Messrs Heaps S.M. (chairman), T. Baigent, G. Macmahon, J. Thomas, J. W. Riley, W. N. Franklyn. The minutes of the annual meeting were read and confirmed.

Application for transfer of license of the Foxhill Hotel from J. Gaukroger to Joseph Hyde. The Magistrate's report was favorable to the transfer.

Constable BLnapp reported that the jylice had no objection to the transfer, was accordingly granted. Mr Maginnity, on behalf of Messrs Dodson and Son, stated that the alterations required to be made at the Brightwater Hotel had been effected. The police reported favorably on this house and stated that the alterations mad a had been a great improvement to the hotel.

Mr J. A. Harley informed the Bench that the fences at the Wakefield Hotel had been put in good order and that plans for the new house had been drawn.

Rs Post Office Hotel, Collingwood. M.- W. Prussing wrote stating theadkli-

tion of bedrooms and bath required by the Committee had not been made on account of the difficulty in getting timber which was now on the ground. Mr Maginnity confirmed the statements made by the licensee. With reference to Collingwood Hotel, Mr Maginnit3 T , who appeared for Mr Pinkerton, stated that the additions ordered had not been carried out. The present owner proposes to re-model the whole building and Mr H. Baigent had been asked to prepare plans for alterations 4 *and additions which would involve an expenditure of between and .£SOO. Mr Maginnity asked that an extension of time be granted till the annual meeting in June next. The necessary extension was granted hy the Bench. On behalf of Mr James Reilly of the Junction Hotel, Takaka, Mr Maginnity submitted plans of the new house proposed to be erected. The hotel would contain 31 rooms.

The plans were approved of, the building to be erected before the annual meeting if possible. Re Belgrove Hotel, Mr Maginnity exhibited plans of a new building to be erected opposite the railway station, which were accepted by the Bench. With reference to the repairs needed at the Gordon Downs Accommodation House, Mr Maginnity, solicitor for tie owners, trustees of the Nelson Institute, stated it was their intention to put the place in thorough order before the new tenant took possession. Constable Mackay wrote stating that repairs to the Telegraph Hotel, Takaka had been delayed by the builder, but would be proceeded with at an early date.

Extension of time was granted to Mrs Reilly till the next meeting of the Bench.

The reading of the quarterly reports of the police which were favorable as far as this portion of the licensing district is concerned, concluded the business of the meeting.
