CRICKET.
MOTUEKA v NGATIMOTI
A match between the clubs above mentioned took place at the cricket ground on Wednesday afternoon, which resulted in a victory for the home team by seven wickets and ten runs. There was a very good attendance of spectators, especially of ladies. The weather was all that could be desired, a cool breeze making play enjoyable. The pitch was in fair order*, although somewhat hard. Motueka (Captain, J. Greensill) won the toss and decided to send their opponents (captained by T. Goodman) to the wickets. The match started at two o'clock and closed at half past six, when hear ty cheers were given for the teams, captains, umpires and scorers. Messrs Macfarlane and A. Inwood acted as umpires and Messrs Jenkins and H. Canton kept the scores. The game was a most interesting one, tne utmost good feeling being displayed by all the participants, who had no occasion to dispute the decisions of umpires or captains. A few details of the game are worth .recording. In the first innings T Goodman of the Ngatimoti team accomplished the "hat trick," taking three wickets in succession, no runs being recorded. In batting, Jackson, W. Boyes and Curtis did yeoman service for Motueka, the latter in the second innings, carrying his bat through, and placing 17 runs to his credit. For Ngatimati, Slatter and T»
Reuben deserve mention in this connection. The bowling appended (which, as a rule, is seldom kept by the scorers through inability or inertness) speaks for itself. NGATIMOTI. Satherley, H, c L.
