SCHOOL EXAMINATION.
f For the information of parents and others we publish the report, together with summary of results, of the examination recently held at the Motueka Borough Schools by Mr G. A. Harkness, Inspector for the Nelson Education Board : Motueka School (Examined 30th Sept., and Ist October, 1901.) Mr H. Langford D. 1. (temporary) ; Assistant, Miss Hughes D. 3. ; P.T. Miss Gilbert. On roll, 150; present, 137. The general work of the school was very satisfactory, the only marked weakness disclosed being the Spelling of St. 4 and the Grammar. The Geography and Drawing of St. 6, Spelling, Writing and Composition of St. 5, Arithmetic ol St 3, Spelling of St. 2, and Writing and Arithmetic of St. i, were all well done and deserving of special commendation. Considering the remarkable record this excellent school has had for so many years it is the more disappointing to find that an able master’s best efforts are not even, yet rewarded by regular attendance. When the possible was 449 for the whole year only 22 out of the 94 in standard classes have been sufficiently regular to reach the 400 limit, and in consequence the lower division contains many children whose years are much, above the average standard age.
