FAIR RENT BILL.

The Government does not intend to proceed with the Fair- Rent Bill this session. The Minister of Lands stated yesterday in the House that he had some doubt as to whether such a Bill would pass. He had been making enquiry about it, and found that there would be very little support for it. So much time having been wasted, he did not care to annoy the House for a night or two over a Bill which would have no chance of passing. He would prefer, therefore, to let the Bill stand over till people were educated up to it, and he was sure that it would then be passed into law.
