THE BIGGEST SHIP IN THE WORLD.
The biggest ship in the -world, the Celtic, of the White Star line, reached New York recently; having completed her maiden voyage from Diverpool in eight days and 46 minutes. There were 345 cabin and 268 steerage passengers. The vessel's average speed en the trip was 14.95 knots, although she is able to log 16|~ knots an hour. The Celtic is 700 ft long, with a gross tonnage of 20,880, and not register of 13, 650 tons. Her breadth is 75 ft depth 49 ft, displacement at load draft 37,700 tons. The displacement tonnage is nearly double that of the Kaiser Wilbelm der Grosse. It is 10,300 tons more than the Great Eastern, which was the wonder of the seas in her day. The Celtic is the first 20,000 ton ship that was ever launched, and has nine decks. There is accomodation on the liner for 350 first-class passengers, their quarters being amidship upon the upper deck, and 1350 third-class passengers are provided for.
