TO THE EDITOR

Sir-: Credit should be given to those to whom it is due. I think the accusations made against Cr Ryder by C r Satherleyand others most unwarranted. Ido not intend doing any leg pulling, as has been done lately by some writers, but I would like to say that C r Ryder is a straight goer, and speaks his mind on every question and some people do not like it. Not only does he do this, but takes an active interest always in seeing work carried out to best advantage. There is always a dissatisfied section in every community and } erhaps some of those we have wiro so freely criticise would not be worth 4 bob a day if they were given a job. I am, etc. Satisfied.

To The Editor

Sir : In complaining of the delnv, iu connection with tie projected bridge across the rivei at Pangatotara., the writer of the letter in your issue of Tuesday says the residents look to Mr Slatter to do their business in pushing the matter on, and that he has apparently gone to sleep. If all the residents of the neighborhood interested had half the "go " of the gentleman complained of the bridge would be an established fact t i-elay ; tnat is, if it depended on local effort alone. I believe that Mr Slatter is responsible for the whole movement, and the member for the district hos had no mo -1 e importunate correspondent on the bridge question in the whole of the electorate than Mr Slatter, and if the- bridge is ever brvlt (which I sincerely hope it will be), I have no hesitation in saying it, will be the result of that gentleman's importunity. Therefore, thanks for the efforts already made and not blame should be his portion. I am etc., One who knows.

the paper was funny but I don't see where the cleverness is. Even if it is funny and smart it is not just to blame us for conduct we are not responsible for. I still reckon the Captain of our company ought to defend us. 1 am etc., v Trooper.
