To The Editor. Sir : Re intention of the "Waimea County Council to pet-tiun the Govei iiment to take a vote of the ratepayers of the Borough of M< fuel a. ridings of Iv'a utere, Kg ; it’inot;. Par gat tara, and j Rlwaha conceiTiing the nesirabiiity, or otherwise, of there being fo) mod a Hnibor Board, called the- Mol.net a Harbor Board. Mow, the great reason why seme, such measure shculd h.e taken, to my mind, is first, that the single wharf rate is a failure, as the wl'aives (bar the Railway wharf which* belongs to the general Government) belong to private individuals wit.) hold li ases of the foreshore ; consequently, any Act of Parliament which may hurt them must he nei uped to them, (if not by the Harbor Beard, by a rebate of foieshore rent). The only way will he by heavy charges foi: labor, as has been hinted, 2s per ton, ah-o the raising of the amount of wharfage to any figiue the Harbor Beard may think fit, to make up any deficiency the Nelson Harbor Board may have. ■• 1 am etc.. g_* • Not a Politician.
