CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor. Sir,: At the last meeting of the Motueka Borough Council, Cr Satherly is reported as having stated that all the money was spent on High Street; one member had met all e 1 a bye road off High Street, just 5 yards beyond the entrance gate t > ids own property, and that he, Cr Sathevley, got promises and nothing more. Cr Satlierley is to be commended for his outspoken fearlessness; lie is well known as a modest, conscientious member, who is assiduous in his attention to his duties, quiet and unassuming. Any remarks of his may-be considered seriously, and spiced with facts. My desire is to draw the ratepayers’ attention to what is going on. The vast expenditure on High Street is alarming. I ain told that over thirty cart loads of broken metal lias been put on this year. Sir, this is a scandalous and crying disgrace to the Corporation. Our money is being thrown away by prodigal expenditure. Cr Sathevley is entitled to the thanks of the ratepayers for bis timely remarks ; it is to he hoped that they will have effect on the High Street members one or two' of whom are ever active in carrying out what L ey term progressive works, but 1 would remind them that progress costs money. I j m etc., Ratepayer. TO THE EDITOR Sir: I am in accord with the writs r of the letter winch appeared in the Motueka Star about the moribund condition of the Motueka Brass l : a ud. As a subscriber to tlieiv funds, in a. general way-, I think we ought to get something in i-etui*n; a little music sayon Sundays here would be welcome, and I daresay- the Motreba people would not object to a silver coin collection if the band turned 1 ut cm moonlight evenings. If the present members cf the band have u that tired feeling which we read about in qurek advrr. tisenients, let them hand over the instruments to your Council, and let thav body see what it can do towards form - ing a municipal band. I am, etc.. Subscriber. Moutere Sept. 4th, [We have excised a portion of the above letter, which was simply- personal abuse, and offensive to certain individuals. We object to importing matters of a personal nature into a discussion on public affairs. Ed. M.S.]
