TATTERSALL’S.
“ Tattersall’s ” is between the devil and the deep sea. The Federal Post-uiaster-General has not decided when the Act will come into force, and no notice will be given to the proprietors of this philanthropic institution, by whose aid one may grow wealthy in ;• i hour. It is not well, as a rule, to exult over tne misfortunes of others, but we have no sympathy with Mr George Adams. That enterprising gentleman has been making quite a respeetadle livelihood out of the ovedu--Ims Australian “ sportsman ” for a number of years now.
True, he has been put to the inconvenience of being “ moved on” several times, but this has been a very minor consideration compared to the fine, fat commissions he received out of the montys sent him by foolish pigeons. We have heard occasionally of some lucky individual in this colony having drawn a winning number in a Tatterill’s sweep, but we do not hear of the t s iusauds of pounds that have been .'.teadily draining out of Hew Zealand every year to augment Mr George Ydam’s bank balance and keep Tattersail’s alive. How the sword of Damocles is hanging over his head, and the Federated Portmaster-General holds the string. We warrant that Mr George Adams has seldom felt so uncomfortable . —Ti uth.
