DEATH OF TE RIRA HINEKURA, OF RANGITIKEI.

On the 26th of April, 1862, Te Rira Hinekura died at Rangitikei, calmly and peacefully. Grief for him induces me to publish this notice of his death in the "Maori Messenger," that his relatives who are living at Waikaio. Kawhia, Mokau, Taupo, and Kapiti may see it. This is the lament : Was it the gods who caused thy dealh ? Was it proud men? Was it the incantations of thy foes? They wept for thee according lo the rights of By hundreds of the people. Lie there In solitude ye forest Irees For who shall say that Ihy canoes Will ever float upon the de«p !
