His Excellency the Lieut. Gov. Major General George Dean Pitt, Commanding Her Majesty's troops in New Zealand, departed this life at Auckland,on Wednesday the Bth inst. The late General Pitt was an old and gallant officer, and had distinguished himself in many of the great battle fields of Europe. Since his arrival here he had, unfortunately, fallen into continuous ill health, and it was only in consequence of the unremitting rare of his medical advisers, combined with the devoted nttenlion of liis family circle, that liis life had been prolonged even to its recent span. His age was 70. On Thursday the gth his remains were followed to the grave by ail immense number of the inhabitants of Auckland and by all the civil and military authorities of the town. When the procession began to move, 13 minute guns were fired from Fort Britomart. Over the grave the Artillery discharged 13 guns more; the 58ili Rcgt. under command of Lieut. Colonel Wynjnrd C.H., fired 3 vollies, and every mark of human respect was shown to the memory of the departed soldier'
