NATIONAL EFFICIENCY BOARD.
Mr James Begg (Commissioner) forwards us the following circular: As you are no doubt aware, the question of utilising school boy labour for shearing and harvesting operations has been taken up by the National Efficiency Board with very encouraging results. A large number of la.ls attending the Secondary schools have volunteered for this work, most of whom have made their own arrangements for employment. The others look to us to place them, and with this in view, I would be glad if you will make enquiries in your district and advise me as soon as possible the names and addresses of farmers desirous of such assistance,, and the number of boys required by each. In doiDg this it will be necessary for you to satisfy yourself that the accommodation and general environment are suitable, and also that the lads will be adequately remunerated for the work they perform. I may mention tLat the boys attending the Waitaki Boys' High School have for some time past filled in their holidays in this manner to the mutual satisfaction of their employers and themselves.
The vacations are expected to c mmence as follows:—
Waitaki Boys' High School, 28th November.
King Edward Technical College, 13th December.
Otago Boys' High School, 14th De-
cember, but arrangements can bs made in most cases for boys to get away before the dates mentioned.
As the matter is urgent, I would be obliged if you will go into it a-ad advise me reault as soon as possible. It is requested that others having lists will return them as soon as '■ possible.
