On Monday a most disastrous fire devastated Daijnevirke, when the entire business portion of the town wa3 destroyed, two hotels and 27 business places being burnt. The loss -is estimated at £200,000. About 2.30 a fire started in an old wooden hotel. A westerly wind fanned the flames and in three minutes the building was ablaze. The flames jumped the street and held the mastery for three hours. There was no loss of life, but hundreds will be thrown out of employment. Among the wounded soldiers who arj rived in the Dominion on the 24th inst. 1 is Private Win. jas. Jack, Naseby.
