NEW NOSES.
The Queen's Hospital. (\t FrognJtl, Sidcup. Kent, has been epceially designed for the treatment of sailors and soldiers .suffering' from injuries fo the face and jaw. The way to build a nose for a man .whose original nose has been shot away was explained to a "Daily Express' representative with the help of casta and wax models. First, the patient's wound must heal completely. Then the contour of the n;w organ .must be built—the foundations of the nose laid, so to speak. This is done with a piece of cartilage from the patient's breast. Then from the forehead a flap of skin is cut cut according to a pattern from the ideal nose modelled in pla-ster by a sculptor. This piece of 6 kin is twisted about and drawn down to cover the whole nose except the places left for the nostrils. In a ■ few weeks tlie scars have healed aiid the nose is complete, except, alas! for-the senee of smell. New' li Ixs are constructed in much the same way, excepting that artificial teeth oii a plate make the foundation for two flaps of skin cut from the cheeks and pulled down into place. The red for the Hps is taken-from inside'the mouth. In case of the underlip, it is, CLl (j and brought down from inside the upper lip, and sewn to tho skia afc the top of the
chin, thlis closing the man's mouth except tor a little hole at each corner, through which he is fed until the wounds are healed. The red menlbr.a'ne is then cut away from I he inner upper lip and sewn inside the lower one to form the correct shape.
