Mount Ida Chronicle FRIDAY, SEPT. 7, 1917.
At the sitting of the court on Tuesday afternoon the only, business was several applications in the Warden's Court—viz., T. \Healey applied for a coal lease of 20a at Kyeburn, which was recommended for the Minister's consent after the description had been amended on Mr Fraser's application. Two applications' by Margaret Beck for coal leases of 5a each at Idabarn were also recommended to the Minister. Mr Fraser explained that applicant held the areas already, but the leases having expired new applications ware necessary.
Our Wedderburn correspondent writes:—Corporal Tbos. M'Carthy axrived at Wedderburn on the 29th ult. A welcome home social will be tendered him on Friday night, 7th inst. Last Saturday the Naseby and Ranfurly Juniors played a football match at Naseby, with the result that Naseby won by 9to nil. In the eveniDg the visitors were entertained at a dance in the Oddfellows' Hall, and it was well attended.'
A team of local school girls visited Ranfurly on Saturday and played a basket-ball match with a team of Ranfurly school girls. The scores were Naseby 5, Ranfurly 3. The motor car purchased by the County Council for the use of the engineer arrived last we?k. The roll of honour published c» Friday includes the name of Lancecorporal Thomas Screen, Ranfurly, in the list of wounded.
