Hospital Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the Maniototo Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on' Wednesday, Ist inst. Present—Messrs G. Inder (chairman), Mann, Kinney, Davis, Lowis, M'Atamney and A. Marslin. The minuteß were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. The inward correspondence was voluminous but unimportant. A letter was read regarding the treatment of Chinamen in the Benevolent Institution and the weekly allowance granted for outdoor relief. Received.—The In-spector-general forwarded a circular respecting the apportionment of representation, and enclosing extract of Order-in-Council regulating the same—seven members by the county and one by the borough. Received.—A telegram was read from the Hospital Department respecting the matron (Miss Kelly) stating her willingness to return under special conditions, which were approved.
Cr Morgan, St. Bathans, appeared before the Board and stated that he was deputed by the Medical Aid Club and Oddfellows at St. Bathans to ask the assistance of the Board in tbe endeavour to retain the services of Dr Griffin, who was called up by the military authorities. After discussion it was moved by Mr Kinney, and seconded by Mr Lowis —Understanding that Dr Griffin, resident medical practitioner in the St. Bathans and surrounding districts, has been called up, the Maniototo Hospital and Charitable Aid Board consider that in accepting the services of Dr Griffin, thus depriving the district of a resident doctor, will be a serious loss and hardship to the residents referred to. In the circumstances this Board write to the military authorities respectfully requesting that the services of Dr Griffin be retained until a successor be appointed.—Motion agreed to.
Several communications were received from consumptive patients applying for admission for treatment in the Maniototo Hospital. The Board did not consider it advisable to admit into the institution persons other than those residing in the hospital district, further, the Government should be induced to undertake the erection- of a sanatorium somewhere in the neighbourhood.
In the matter of fire insurance, it was agreed to take oat a policy in the Government State Fire Office.
The Hospital Committee's report was read and adopted. Accounts amounting to £212 la 4d were passed for payment.
