OLD SOLDIER'S SAD END. In a letter he wrote before taking Lis life, Thomas M. Reynolds, an old soldier, living at Bromley, Kent, stated that he had been " discharged after 29 years, and turned out -of a cottage through, illhealth" He had been a gardener at less than £1 a week on Lond Sackville's estate and hi 3 lordship's steward (Charles .Saers) said Reynolds had been discharged because they could not pav him* ior doing nothing. "Someone was wanted to do the work, and the cottage was wanted for the new man The Coroner - Would there be anygratmty or small pension allowed to anybody on the estate who had served 2.Q or so years?
Witness said that there had never been any pensions allowed on the estate for the* last 10 years. Lord Sackvflle would have no personal knowledge of what was taking place. His lordship was at the front S the time. Witness had nothing to reproach himself with. He showed Reynolds every consideration. \ -™y"°iae> The jury's verdict was "Suicide while temporarily insane."
