Kyeburn.

A most enjoyable social was held in the hall on Tuesday, July 3rd, to • bid farewell to Private Harold Strode who has been home (.n final leave before going to the front with the 2Sth Reinforcement. The night being fine a large crowd assembled, coming from all .parts of the plain. The social was run under the; management of the Patriotic Committee, and they deserve praiae as they do all they can to make the socials a success. The music for the dance was supplied by Mr JR. L. Geddes (violin) assisted by other gentlemen, and Mr H. Moore, Naseby (piano). The refreshments were supplied by the ladies.

Hare bhoot.—At the hare shoot, which was held on June 30th, the Darty consisted 6f 18 guns and managed to shoot 42 Lares. During the day hares were very scarce; no doubt on account of such a mild winter, there being no snow to'drive the hares down from tha high ground. Another- hare shoot was hdld last Saturday, July 7th. The party was mucd larger than before, consisting of 28 guns, four good shooters coming froai Waipiata and Hamiltons and they soon made a name for themselves. Hares were plentiful and the party managed to bag 212 hares. July 9tb, 1917.
