New Zealand and the War
One of the greatest difficulties confronting the Government is the shortage of cool storage, due to the fact that there are insufficient ships to take the produce away. From one eid of the dominion to the other all the available space is crammed with meat, Bnd butter, and week by week the problem grows more acute. The Government is doing its best to grapple with the difficulty, and the Prime Minister (Mr Massey) has alread announced that it is hoped that the production of butter will commence on August 1 as usual. The position in regard to cheese is very serious, but Mr Massey has also in this connection expressed the opinion that its production will not be interfered with.
With a view to assisting the Government the Rquisitions Board, the Board of Trade, and the Imperial Supplies Board have held a conference with the National Efficiency Board rega-ding storage space, and as a result certain recommendations have been made to the Government These have not yet been divulged, as they nave to be considered by the Cabinet Representative? of the freezing companies h~ld a conference- to discuss the samo subject.
