We hear that the firm of Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co. are stationing an agent at Ranfurly. The Medical Board held an examina" tion at Ranfurly oil luesday and Wednesday of last week and the percentage of medically fit men for ; active, service was fair. The Patriotic Committee held a Red Cross dance in White's 'Hall, Wedderburn, on Friday, 6th July. Law put up for sale several valuable articles generously donated" by residents of Wedderburri, which realised a considerable sum. Mr I. J. White ga.ve great assistance not only by acting as M.C. but also by disposing of a large tray of exquisite buttonholes at 6J each. The music was supplied by Messrs 'H. Moore (piano), and H. Law (violinj. !After the dance bad been kept up till a late hour everyone l went home feeling well pleased with the night's enjoyment.

Commencing with the instalments due on Ist August, 1917, old age, widows, military, miners' and . war pensions will be paid on any date from the 23rd of the month preceding the due date of payment to the Ist day of the month succeeding the due date, both days inclusive.

Owing to the illness of her father, Miss Kelly, matron of the hospital, has had to resign. Miss Campbell, of Riverton, is filling the position temporarily till arrangements can be made for a successor.
