Obituary.

The following paragraph taken from the Hobart (Tasmania) Mercury will be of interest to a great many people in Maniototo, to whom the deceased was well known, haying occupied the position of Vicar of the parish for a short time a few years ago. During his residence in the district he discharged his duties with satisfaction to Lis congregation and made a great many friends outside of his parochial duties owing to his genial disposition. At the time of his departure from Naseby he occupied the office of W.M. of the Mount Ida Lodge of Freemasons] in which position his services were much appreciated by the. brethren. Regret will be felt at his demise:— "The Rev. T. C. Burgess, whose death was recently announced in The Mercury, was born in Lincolnshire in 1869. He came to Australia when he was 19 years of age, and after a business career of twelve years returned to England. Deciding to take Holy Orders (Anglican), he entered the Lincoln Theological College, whence, after three years' study, be passed with much credit. He then went to New Zealand, where he was ordained by the .Primate (Dr Nevill), under whom he worked for six years, and afterwards in the Canterbury Diocese for two years. To look after business interests, Mr Burgeßs went to West Australia, and while*there did some work in the diocese, but > the climate being unsuitable to himself and wife they came to Hobart about a year ago. The late gentleman acted as locum tenons on several occasions in this Diocese, including at Zeehan and Hamilton. His health had not been satisfactory for some time, but the end was somewhat sudden. He was much liked by all who knew him, possessing, as he did, a most genial and sympathetic temperament. He was a relation of Mr Murray Burgess, a former Director of Education in Tasmania. , He leavea & widow, but no family."
