Copy of letter read, addressed by the Mayor to the Colonial Secretary, requesting that 2000 acres of land be set apart in the neighborhood of Naseby for the benefit of the Corporation, power being given the Governor in Council under
part XIII., section 350, of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1876. BErOBT. The Waterworks Committee presented the following report, which was read and received:— Your Committee have pleasure in reporting for the information of the Council that have carefully estimated the cost of constructing waterworks to supply the inhabitants of the town of Naseby, and have prepared an estimate of the probable expense of the same (which was attached). From the estimate ifc will be observed that your Committee have based their calculations on three, four, and six-inch mains. Your Committee would therefore recommend after a careful calculation of each main that the six-inch piping be laid down Leven, Earn, and Derwentstreets, to the junction of the cemetery road, and three-inch piping in the branch streets, namely Oughter, Csrron, Keswick, and part of Foyle and Broom-streets. Your Committee haying also at the same time tnaile a careful estimate of the probable income derivable from these works, have come to the conclusion that they would yield a handsome return on the amount required to be expended, and become'a source of considerable revenue to the Corporation. Dnder the present arrangement, water is supplied to only a portion of the town. This scheme would give a plentiful supply to the whole borough, add materially to the comfort of the inhabitants, and at the same lime give greater security in case of fire. Your Committee therefore earnestly recommend this important matter to the favorable consideration of the Council. (Signed) L. W. Brscn, Chairman Michael Bkookes, John Dixion.
