FARMERS' CLUB—MOUNT IDA DISTRICT.

A public meeting to held at the Town Ball, Naseby, on Tuesday evening, the 19th instant, called by advertisement, for the carrying out of an Annual Ploughing Match. His Worship the Matoe was voted to the Chair, and explained the object of the meeting.

Mr Piuder, as one of the conveners, said that, as very few took an active interest in these matters, Mr Hall and himself had taken it upon them to summon the meeting (Cheers.) He thought a permanent Committee should be formed, to carry out the Match every year. He would propose—" That a Ploughing Match be held this year in the Naseby district." .Seconded by Mr W. J. Millak, and carried.

It was then suggested, and, after consideration, resolved—" That a Club or Association be formed, the membership to be 55." Mr Guffie proposed, Mr J. Smith seconded— "That the Club be known as the ' Mount Ida Farmers' Club.' " This, Mr Guffie thought, would protect the interests of Hyde, all the Maniototo, Cambrian, and all on that side. This being carried, Mr Pinder proposed—"That the management consist of a President, Secretary, and Treasurer, and a Committee of seven (altered subsequently to fifteen), four to form a quorum, to hold office for twelve months ; that the ordinary meetings of members be held quarterly, for the discussion oil general business ; and that the June meeting be the annual meeting for the election of officers." Seconded by Mr Joseph Crkighton. Mr Walter Inber strongly supported the institution of a Club, which would take up other matters besides ploughing, and be the beginning of x. body that could organise Agricultural Shows, and offer prizes for produce. They could not jump into this, but might move with the times.

The resolution was put, and carried. Mr John Ceetghton proposed, and Mr Steaivman seconded, that Mr Busch be first President. Mr Steadman amd Mr Inder were named for the post of Secretary and Treasurer, but declined. Mr James Smith ultimately accepted the post. Mr Inder said that, in hi 3 opinion, the whole working of the scheme would rest with the Committee. No one should accept office on the Committee unless he knew something about the business. ffe hoped good practical men would be chosen. . Leave of the meeting having been given to the amendment" of the former resolution, increasing the Committee to fifteen, the following members were elected (of course, in some case subject to the consent of those chosen): Messrs W. Inder, John Creighton, Joseph Creighton, Steadman, Glenn, Mulholland, Guffie, Packman, de Lautour, Naseby ; T. Foster, Hamilton ; Milward, White Horse ; Laverty, Hyde ; Greer, Sowburn ; George Turnbull, Blackstone Hill; G-. Currie, Kyeburn Huiidred.

The ploughing match was then again reverted to, and Mr Bleach pointed out the necessity of not waiting till all the farmers were busy on their own ground—that now was the best time.

Mr Inder suggested that notice should be at once given to all members of Committee, and the meeting fixed for that day weekv This was agreed to, and, in order to expedite matters, Messrs Joseph Creighton, Mulholland, and Guffie were appointed a Committee, to report at next meeting as to a suitable spot for the match.

A vote of tiialiks to the Chair closed the business, which was marked by a good deal of animation. About thirty members were at once enrolled in the room, and the general membership is likely to be large. . ✓
