THE NEW HEDGE-CUTTING MACHINE.

Aa announced in our columns public trial of Messrs Eeid and Gray's new hedge-cutting machine, has taken place and resulted most satisfactorily. To an eye-witness we are indebted for the following particulars:—"lt gives me great pleasure to say that as far as the machine itaelf is concerned I consider it a great success, doing its work thoroughly and efficiently. The difficulty to contejad with is the guiding of the horsei in a straight line, and when this is overcome I believe we have & machine that will dress our hedges in aa thorough a manner aa it can be accomplished by the hand. The trial was made in the same paddock in which it was previously made, and as steadier horses were obtained, some very creditabe work was done. 1 have no doubt that when the horses become more accustomed to the work, and the driver has had more practice, the present existing difficulty of tho guiding will be in a great measure overcome." Altogether, it would seem therefore that Messrs Eeid and Gvny have successfully solved the problem of hedge-cutting by machinery, and we congratulate them upon this pleasing result of their energy, and enterprise. —»' North Otago Times:'
