In the University Council Macandrew has brought down several important resolutions for the next meeting, the first of which asks the Chancellor to take the necessai'y steps for legislation to mak>;. the Professors ex oflicio members of the Council; and for calling for competitive designs.for new buildings., which are to cost £20,000. The third resolution affirms the desirability of setting apart £IOO9 per year for scholarships iu connection with the University. It was stated that the Professorial Board had prepared proposals for forming a School of Mines. Macaudrow suggested that Ulrieh should be appointed -to the charge of it. The Waste Lands Board has rescinded its resolution to meet bi-weekly. It wa3 agreed to subdivide ran 51 intotwo. Chief Surveyors recommendation of subdivision of run -18 — 3250 acres for sale, and two runs of 7550 and 6700 respectively. The Commissioners personally inspect the runs this week, co;nmenciug with Maerewhenua. A petition was received from settlers at Moonlight Flat, asking the Board to throw open 10,000 acres there for sale on agricultural leases and defen-ed payments. Adjourned for awe k ' D. F. Main drew attention to a petition from settlers at Hyde for another block of land on run 205, and stated that, if the petition was granted, the run would be wholly unworkable. Referred to District Laud Officer, to be reported upon by h.m along with petition already forwarded for that purpose The Goldfields Wardens recommend taking up of special water race licensees for fifteen years ; reduction of gold-mining leases to £1 ; miners' right's to run all over the Island ; assimilation of - Warden's Court to It. M. Court ; proclamation of the whole of. the Goldfields-of the .Middle Island as one district; and making provision for the temporary occupation.of laud where doubts exist of its being auriferous for agricultural purposes by short leases, without right of purchase. Parliament meets on July 20th.
