NASEBY ATHENÆUM.

We understand that the invoice of £l4 worth of new books for the above institution ha 3 been received by Dr. Whitton. Some alterations have also been made in the periodicals to be found on the tables, ' Scribner'g Monthly,' ' Macmillan's Magazine,' and the ' Pall Mall Budget' replacing ' Harper's Weekly' and the ' Graphic.' The Committee considered that one London illustrated was enough, and that the substitution of a standard magazine would be more appreeiated than the American pictorial, which is made up of Yankee political cartoons—and reprints from the plates of the London illustrates. The < Pall Mall Budget,' a weekly compilation of the ' Gazette,' probably gives a better general insight into affairs at Home than any paper published ; ' Macinillan' is a well-known standard magazine ; while 'Scribner's Monthly' is made up of good general articles, often light, and is very nicely illustrated. Several additional Colonial papers have, too, been procured lately. There i 3 a collection of papers and books in our Athenaeum now sufficient to supply pretty fully almost every literary taste, and, with the revenue that the institution has, the collection roust be considered very good. Of course, like other things, it has to struggle on with " subscriptions in arrears," but the Committee intend shortly to make an effort to reduce the number of these. We believe that an entertainment in connection with the institution is projected, which will probably bejlheld on the night of the cricket match with ft. Bathans. The following are the names of the new books, which will be received in the course of a week : Dickon's Life nnd Speeches, Life of Prince Bismarck, Life and Times of Daniel O'Connell, Sir William W'al lace, Footprints of Famous Men, Tales of Saracens, Realities of Irish Life, lionwick's Old Colonial Days, Past and Present of New Zealand, Great Historical Mutinies, History of the Defonce of Imcknow, Great Battles of British Army.
