HYDE LAND MEMORIAL.
The following, is a copy of a memorial forwarded to the 'Waste Lands Board, prepared and signed by residents at Hyde. The memorial was sent to ihe district member for transmission to the Chief Commissioner on Friday lasi, and will, no doubt, have been laid before the Board, ai its sitting on Wednesday. How is it, wo wonder, that our people have to plead ■"or years, like paupers, to be allowed Lo utilise the wastes of our young Colony. The obtrusive fact is a most painful one : To the Hon. the Memhers of the Waste Lands Board, Ufcago,— The memorial, &c.
That, ab a public; meeting held at Hyde on the above date, iMr. John Laverty, Comity Councillor in the chaii*, it was, on the motion of Mr. Michael -Pi-endorgast, -unanimously res jived --"That your HonoralVe Board bo requested to proclaim for selection for settlement -1000 acres of land on the Peejxlell run, on the agricultural leasehold system, in the neighborhood of Table Hill, and adjoining the now fully occupied agricultural leasehold block, Uoek and Pillar district. Also, 12000 actes of land on deferred: payment system on Mr. Main's run, iSlrathlaieri.
Your memorialists submit for consideration, that, on Mr. Main's run there ai - c yet li'OH acr.-s of land due to the public, out of the "000 acres covenanted to be given i.p by him when required for settlement. Your memorialists to direct your attention to the fact that the whole of the 4000 acre block lately opened on the deferred payment system on Mr. Main's run, Strathtaieri, has been, taken up and granted to applicants, as also has been the agricultural leasehold block, Table Hill .(lock and Pillar district. There is now no laud open for selection, cither on deferred payment or on agricultural leasehold, although land is nrgentJy needed yet by residents desirous of making homes in the district.
Therefore, in view of the constantly existing and increasing demand for land for the ends of settlement and cultivation,' as also, too, to keep pace with the progression of iiyde and its surroundings, it is earnestly hoped yon will accede to the terms of the resolution, and cause to be surveyed and proclaimed without delay the areas of land in the manner and places hereinbefore set forth. Your memorialists beg to assure 3*oll that there will he no lack of applicants for the areas asked for. Thev also respectfully intimate that, to facilitate benelicial occupancy, it is desirable the opportunity to take up and cultivate this year should be -iven before the setting in of winter. Your memorialists deem it needless to further urge their claim on your attention, feeling assured that you arc always w ijling to aid in the laudable work of colonisation—the reclamation 01 the waste lands, and the conversion of the wilderness into smiling homesteads and corn-laden lields. w Trustfully abiding in the hope that yoti will lie favorable to their request, your memorialists ever pray. *• J'-titt Laverty, Patrick Fx.vny, AItDIiOSK Mr.KHAN, J?: X. Little, MVItART, PIiKNDBBGAST, R. T Poole, RoiiEii Gill, and 41 others.
