MOUNT IDA HOSPITAL.
j ANNUAL MEEI'rNG. The annual meeting of subscribers to the Hospital was held on Monday eveniug at Lite District tselloolhou.se. The attendance was very scanty, a large amount .of pressure, and, considerable patience being needed to muster an audience of eleven.
Mr. Indeh, being voted to the chair, expressed his regret at the small attendance. It showed, he feared, .that little interest was taken in the management of an institution that required the support of all. He regretted that the President, Mr. Kobinson, was not present, as he would have been able to express the state and position of the Hospital in a more satisfactory manner than ho could hope to do, not having any idea that the duties of Chairman would fall on him. Very recently they were in difficulties, but the call made for assistance was responded to in a manner quite unexpected by the Committee. Support came from all quarters, from some in which it was quite unexpected. The time was a critical one for the institution, owing to the changes of Government. He understood that the same subsidy would not be continued by the Government. This being generally known, might account for the very liberal support given at the close of the year. He would not pretend to enter more generally into the affairs pfthe Hospital, as the President would have done if able to have been present. He would call on Mr. George to read the report:; — KEFORT. The Committee of Management for the year 1876 bog to lay before'the subscribers their report. In resigning into the hands of 'ihe<sub< scribers the trust confided to them oil ; the 13th of January, 1876, they beg to report, having found the institution in fair working order, and they now beg to surrender their trust to their successors. • ... , , • At the commencement of your Committee's term there was one patient in the house. There have been admitted and treated during the year twenty-si:: patients—discharged cured, 20j died,' 5; and' remaining in the house, 1. The suTj;eon's report will afford all necessary information as to disease, &c. ■ ■ \ ■
Your Committee consider tho financial position of the institutiou satisfactory. In taking over the trust your Committee found a credit balance in bank of £144 J Bs. 6d., which, with a subsidy due by the Government of £144 25.6 d., made a total of £2S9 Is.; and, although the balance in hand is not so large as they, would wish, sti l ! they consider it satisfactory. Jn making up the balance for the financial year ending December,, 31, 1876. we are able to, show a credit balance at bank'of £lo<ilGs. 7d.; subsidies due, £256 lis. Gd.; altogether, £361 Ss. Id. ,''.Clio whole of the subsidy due for.; 1876 has been received since the year closed; which, together with uusubsidised subscriptions received sincej' £33 6s 6d., will leave a ci'edit balance at bank 0f,£396 odd. 'Ehere.is also an amount of about £9 4s. which- the Committee expect'-to receive from the Govern-' roent. ~.■-, ■•■-., Your Committee have to thank those ladies and gentlemen who h'aVe come forward and given their valuable services, at the \arions entertainments in aid of the. funds of the institution, as- a\-16 the local and district committees and collectors; who have contributed and worked s>o„ earnestly towards the support of the institution. \ in conclusion, your Committee have to express their grateful thanks to'one and al] for' the liberal support accorded them, and for the. confidence reposed in., them, and hope that when means are wanted tbey will be forthcoming. .' . ! Mr. Jackson seconded the nomination' of Mr. Gordon. Mr. Anderson said he did not shirk from the work. What he objected to was being made a catspaw of. He did hot mind the work, if there wore any work to do. Mr. Gordon, upon Mr. Anderson positively declining to act, consented to be appointed. Mr. Gobdon.proposed Mr. George as Secretary and general collector.' The Rev. J. Smith that the County Chairman should be appointed an additional and honorary member of the Committee. ■ ; Mr. Indeh spoke in the most eulogistic terms of Mr. llblland's support always given to the institution. At the same time, in the absence of the. President, he was rathc-r unwilling to make so considerable an innovation upon the practice as to : introduce other than the clergy as honorary members. He was quiteisiiVe Mr. Holland would not be in the slightest degree influenced in his support whether on or off the Committee. Mr. Goedon proposed that the ."Revds. E. Hpyer, J, M'Cosh Smith.and.JVHobbs : be honorary member of Committee. This' was agreed to, it being considered that, while the clergy would not care to take an active part in the business of the Committee, yet that they should be placed on an independent footing in the Hospital, and be able in Committee "to make such suggestions as they thought right. j 'Messrs. Glenn and Wilson were again appointed auditors for the year, being nominated by Messrs., Jackson and Horswell. A vote of thanks to the ehaircclosed the I business.
